Baby Snack Cup Retail Family — EN 14350 Discipline Across 8 SKUs

The challenge

A premium US baby brand launching a coordinated snack-cup range needed 8 SKUs organized as 3 sizes (150 ml, 220 ml, 300 ml) × 3 colors (soft sage green, dusty blush pink, warm oat cream) plus 2 lid-variant SKUs (twist-lock lid + soft-seal lid) for adult-recloseable / self-feeding age tiers. Compliance requirements were locked from day one: EN 14350 baby-feeding safety documentation for EU markets, USP Class VI extractables profile for the customer's "medical-grade silicone" brand positioning, FDA + LFGB per batch, PFAS non-detect per batch, and CPSIA per-lot children's product certification for the US launch. Additional constraint: ±0.5 ΔE Pantone tolerance across all 8 SKUs — tighter than the compound-house standard of ±1-2 ΔE — because the retail family had to look coordinated on shelf next to the brand's other feeding accessories.

How we approached it

We qualified a specific platinum-cure LSR compound against USP Class VI before quoting; the customer's compliance team reviewed the extractables profile at RFQ stage rather than post-tooling. First-article samples cleared EN 14350 drop-test and dimensional verification against the CAD spec at an accredited lab (SGS). Multi-durometer press setup: Shore A 40-50 for the collapsible rim geometry, Shore A 50-60 for the cup body — this required a two-material press cycle with tooling changeover discipline. Master-batch color mixed pre-press and spectrophotometer-verified against TPX Pantone reference before every batch. Per-batch compliance packet (EN 14350 + FDA + LFGB + PFAS + USP Class VI + CPSIA lot documentation) bundled into one PDF and shipped with the goods. 36-month ISO 9001 retention on all batch documentation.

Outcome

Program has now run 3 years at ~65,000 pieces per year across 8 SKUs (extended to 12 SKUs in year 2 after the customer added a 4th color, dusty terracotta, and 2 additional lid variants). Zero regulatory incidents in the 3-year window — every batch's EN 14350 + USP Class VI documentation has cleared retail audit including two rounds of Consumer Product Safety Commission review triggered by unrelated adjacent-category product recalls. The ±0.5 ΔE Pantone tolerance held reliably across all production cycles. The customer's brand creative team used this program's coordinated colorway internally as the reference example when scoping other silicone feeding accessories elsewhere in their product portfolio.
