Top-5 US premium sink brand caliber (Kraus / Ruvati / VIGO / Kohler / Blanco / Elkay accessory-line tier) · Silicone Drying Mats · Multi-color platinum-cured silicone sink mat OEM, 4 SKUs across two sink families
Sink Brand · Silicone Sink Mat Multi-Color OEM Program (Case Study)
The challenge
The brand's accessory line had shipped a first-generation silicone sink mat sourced through a trading intermediary and hit two problems in year one: color drift batch-to-batch on the sand and sage SKUs (ΔE > 3.5 against the Pantone target under CIE D65) and a low but nonzero rate of first-heat odor complaints traced to under-post-cured peroxide-cure product. The procurement team needed to consolidate to a single OEM factory that could hold Pantone color across 4 SKUs, run platinum-cure to eliminate the odor pathway, ship the full FDA / LFGB / ISO 10993 / Prop 65 / PFAS compliance stack per batch, and pass a Tier 2 US home-improvement chain's on-file audit — all at a price point that let the mat retail in the $18-$34 range on the brand's own site and inside the retail channel co-op program.
How we approached it
Wetop scoped the program in a joint 90-minute engineering call: single supplier from raw material to finished carton, platinum-cured silicone at Shore A 60 to bridge sink-grid feel and mat flexibility, in-house tool shop cutting all 4 molds off the brand's CAD (sink-family inner-basin footprints plus a custom drain-hole layout aligned to each sink family's low point), and a color-matching workflow anchored on Pantone Solid Coated chips read under CIE D65 with a spectrophotometer at every master-batch qualification. RFQ landed on a Tuesday; costed BOM plus 4-week tooling plan returned Friday; first mold cut in 11 days; first color-qualified sample shipped day 12. PPAP-style approval packet — dimensional report, Shore A durometer per ASTM D2240, thermal-shock verification, FDA / LFGB / ISO 10993 / Prop 65 / PFAS test reports keyed to the qualification master-batch lot, packaging drop-test, and a signed process FMEA — cleared the brand's engineering review inside 6 weeks. Production ran under ISO 9001:2015 batch traceability with AQL 1.5 pre-shipment inspection per ISO 2859-1 and a per-lot color check against the reference chip. Every carton ships with the master-batch lot code stamped on the polybag for buyer-side traceability.
Outcome
Three years in, the program has held ±3 days on lead time across 11 POs, zero rejected batches at buyer-side incoming inspection, and ΔE ≤ 1.8 batch-to-batch on the sand and sage SKUs (target was ≤ 2.5) measured under CIE D65 against the Pantone reference. First-heat odor complaints — the failure mode that drove the resource decision — have gone to zero at the retail return desk. The brand consolidated a second accessory SKU family (a companion silicone dish-drying mat program) onto the same tooling floor in year two after the sink-mat program cleared its 12-month review, and the Tier 2 US home-improvement chain audit passed on the first submission in year one and has re-passed annually since. Landed FOB pricing came in 8-12% below the trading-intermediary structure the brand exited, with the tooling amortization cleared inside PO#1 and PO#2.
